The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs – Owners Cottage
The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs has 22 private guest suites that overlook the golf course, with views beyond to the Cavalli Islands and cape Brett. The most exclusive of them is the Owners Cottage. The landscape design at Kauri Cliffs solely utilises native species, the only exception being exotics in pots. The Owners Cottage however contains a walled secret garden that is a subtropical oasis of lush foliage, colour and fragrance.
Northland schist has been used to form a flagstone pathway leading from the courtyard door to the square cut paved patio that is interlaced with perennial Thyme. Weathered natural rocks form the small goldfish pond filled with water lilies, this is backed by exotic New Guinea tree ferns. A large Jacaranda tree was transplanted into one corner of the courtyard, and this is under planted with a mix of bold foliage plants, variegated grasses, Crucifix orchids, and tropical cabbage trees. This garden truly is a delight to the senses and a pleasant surprise when you enter through the doorway swathed by Star Jasmine.
